The Resource of Truth

March 18, 2011
Truth is a resource. If we believe what God says in His word it has a profound effect on us, changing the way we respond to life. Last week we were challenged to "consider Jesus" as we run the race, so that we do not become overwhelmed by discouragement (Hebrews 12:1-3). The author of Hebrews offers us the knowledge of Jesus' experience as a resource to help us avoid losing heart in the race.

Similarly, James tells us to "count it all joy" when we face trials, because we know the truth; trials bring about valuable and necessary results in our life (James 1:2-4). Scripture seems to constantly give us truth that is intended to do more than simply inform; it is intended to leverage real change and equip us for life. Apart from the truth of God's word we have no real power or resource to respond to the difficulties and challenges we face from our own flesh, the world, and the enemy.

Truth is a resource for our perseverance and for our joy. But so often we approach scripture as merely information that has no transforming effect on our lives. May we approach God's word with a humble desire to value the resource He has given us.
