For Those Who Are Suffering

October 25, 2011
Because we live in a fallen world, there is suffering. For those who are experiencing pain and adversity, may these words from scripture be a strengthening grace in your life today.

Romans 8:18-39
We know that our sufferings are worth it. They are not worthy to be compared to the future experience of joy and glory with Christ in heaven. And we know that nothing can separates us from his love, and that all these things work together ultimately for our good if we belong to him.

Matthew 5:1-16
Blessed are those who suffer for Christ's sake. Your reward is great in heaven. Persevere and let your light shine so that men will see your good works and be compelled to recognize the power and glory of God.

James 1:2-4, 12
Determine to see your suffering as a true reason to rejoice, not because you enjoy the pain, but because the painful circumstances bring about an eternally valuable result: perseverance that brings about the maturity of our faith. And if we endure to the end we receive the ultimate reward; the crown of life that God has promised to all who are truly His.

Hebrews 12:1-4
Jesus experienced more pain, abuse and rejection than any of us. Do not forget that he obediently endured unimaginable suffering because of the joy set before him; the joy of seeing us saved and the Father glorified. Look to him as you run this race.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5
Our God is a not a cold sovereign dictator. He is "the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort" who actively comforts us. As we share in the afflictions of Christ, we also share in his comfort.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10
While God may not remove the source of your pain, he gives grace to overcome and be strong. Our weakness is the stage upon which He demonstrates His glory. It is when we are most vulnerable, desperate and helpless that He is shown to be most glorious, sovereign and good. This is a reason for us to embrace our weakness and cling to our Savior with joy knowing that He is able to pour out His grace and power upon us.
